Saudabayev Meets up with Armenian Leaders

Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Kanat Saudabayev met up with several representatives from the Armenian government last February 16, 2010. Both parties discussed the importance of building trust between the two sides involved in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in order to come up with a peaceful settlement and stability.

Aside from this, Kanat Saudabayev and the Armenian leaders also discussed taking crucial steps into attaining normalized relations with Turkey. According to Saudabayev, the Kazakhstan OSCE chairmanship recognizes the importance of Armenia as well as the entire South Caucasus region in order to have security and stability in the entire OSCE area.

After meeting up with Armenia’s Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan, Kanat Saudabayev says the Kazakhstan-led OSCE is looking for ways to provide motivation to all sides involved in the conflict in order to resolve security problems in the region.

As of now, resolving the protracted conflicts that faces the entire region is one of the major priorities of the Kazakhstan OSCE chairmanship. With this, the OSCE provides its full support to the initiatives of the Minsk Group Co-chairs, believing that the best way to get a peaceful settlement is to create mutual trust and understanding between both parties involved. In addition to this, the OSCE also supports the confidence-building work of Andrzej Kasprzyk, Kanat Saudabayev’s personal representative.

After meeting several Armenian leaders, Saudabayev also went to visit the South Caucasus region in order to meet up with several members of the nation’s political parties, including the Levon Ter-Petrosyan, as well as the president himself, Serzh Sargsyan.

On his visit to South Caucasus, Kanat Saudabayev stressed on the importance of the cooperation between the OSCE group and Armenia in solving not only security problems, but also major environmental problems.

Additionally, Kanat Saudabayev also made a stopover in Baku to talk to several Azerbaijani authorities and representatives of political parties.
